A surprise treat from my wife, we had a very enjoyable evening at the Birmingham Hippodrome. I’m no ballet expert so unable to write an ‘informed review’, but I do like ballet, its combination of grace, elegance, emotion with talent and underlying effort (I know from my daughter’s many years of studying ballet how physically demanding it is).
The two pieces where in sharp contrast to each other. Allegri diversi with no set or other ‘distractions’ (hhmm poor word choice) allowed us to focus on the dance. Carmina burana with dramatic sets and the energy and beauty of the choir was more accessible (to non-experts such as me).
We booked through Travel Zoo, and I feel a bit guilty having discounted tickets to what was a wonderful and memorable performance.
